Hakodate Park Central Fountain, water play (函館公園 中央噴水)
About this spot
The Hakodate Park Central Fountain water play area is a free water play spot at the heart of a historic park spreading out at the foot of Mount Hakodate. In 2026 it becomes available from Wednesday, July 1, as soon as preparations are complete (the closing date has not been announced). The large central fountain has no fence and a gentle design, so children can walk into the water on their own feet. Several smaller fountains surround it, letting children who want a strong shower and those who prefer to quietly dip their feet each choose their own spot. There are restrooms in the park and Children's Land is right beside it, so the whole environment is easy to spend a day in. With plenty of old trees, shade is easy to find, and adults can watch over things at leisure.
Season & hours
Name: 函館公園 中央噴水(水遊び)
Date & time: 7/1 (Wed)より準備が整い次第利用可(終了日は未発表)
Venue: 函館市・函館公園
Tips
When it opens depends on how preparations progress, so check Hakodate City's information before you set out. Because there is no fence, children can come and go from the water freely, so keep your eyes on small children at all times. Some stone-paved areas are slippery, so having children wear water sandals is safer. The sea is close and the wind can pick up in the evening, so bring an extra layer and plenty of dry towels.
Best time to visit
Arriving at 14:45 gives you about two hours, right through to the softer light of evening
