About this spot

Standing on a hill in Kamiyunokawa-cho, Hakodate (函館市上湯川町), this was the first convent for women established in Japan. The buildings, with their beautiful contrast of red brick and white walls, are widely known as one of the landscapes that represent Hakodate. Because nuns actually live here, visitors can only go as far as the front garden, but the carefully tended flower beds and the quiet air alone make the visit worthwhile. The shop sells confections made on the premises, which are welcome as souvenirs. From the top of the hill you can look out over the city of Hakodate, and that view at the end of the climb becomes a reward for children.

空港緑地高松展望広場水遊び場は、函館空港のすぐそばにある無料の水遊びスポットです。2026年は7月1日(水)より、準備が整い次第利用できるようになります(終了日は未発表)。いちばんの特徴は、離着陸する飛行機を間近に見上げられる展望広場の中にあること。水しぶきをあげて遊んでいる最中に、頭上を大きな機体が通り過ぎていく体験は、飛行機好きの子には忘れられない一日になります。浅い水遊び場なので小さな子でも足をひたして遊べ、遊具もそろっているので水に飽きても遊びが途切れません。駐車場が整っているため、車での家族連れにも使いやすい場所です。

Tips

利用開始の状況は準備の進み具合によって変わるため、出発前に函館市の案内で確認してください。飛行機の発着時刻を調べておくと、見どころの時間に合わせて休憩を挟めます。広場は日陰が限られるので、ワンタッチテントやレジャーシートがあると休憩しやすくなります。風の通る場所なので夕方は体が冷えることがあり、羽織ものと乾いたタオルを多めに用意しておくと安心です。

Tips

Check the visiting hours and accessible areas in the official guidance beforehand, and keep quiet so as not to disturb convent life. There are slopes and steps up to the front garden, so wear comfortable walking shoes. There is little shade, so a hat and drinks are essential. Parking is available, and Hakodate Airport (函館空港) is about a ten-minute drive away.
