The Hokkaido Tokachi Ecology Park Water and Mist Play Area (北海道立十勝エコロジーパーク 水と霧の遊び場) is a free water play area within Hokkaido Tokachi Ecology Park (北海道立十勝エコロジーパーク) in Otofuke Town (音更町). Its combination of fountains and mist sets it apart from other water play areas: you can not only leap into the rising jets but also run through the drifting mist. The opening period has not yet been announced; in past years it has fallen within the summer holidays. The park has an air dome (ふわふわドーム) and a broad lawn, so when children tire of the water they can switch to bouncing or lying down, which families will appreciate. There are restrooms in the visitor centre and a properly maintained car park, so even families with small children can spend the whole day here with peace of mind. Its wide-open setting on the banks of the Tokachi River (十勝川) offers a sense of openness you will not find in a city park.

Please check the opening period and the day's operating status on the official website in advance (source: https://tokachi-ecopark.jp/facility). The grounds are large, so working out the route from the car park and the location of the restrooms first makes moving around easier. The air dome is slippery when bodies are still wet, so build in time to dry off with a towel between water play and bouncing. Shade on the lawn is limited, so a folding sunshade makes breaks more comfortable.

Best time to visit

Starting at 13:30 gives you a full 3 hours of play through to the softer light of evening.
