Historical Village of Hokkaido Open-Air Museum

This is a large open-air museum where buildings put up across Hokkaido from the Meiji era to the early Showa era have been relocated and lined up together. You can actually step inside the shops, farmhouses, station buildings and schools, so you get a physical sense of "the scale of life in that era" that is completely different from seeing photographs. As you walk the streets, details such as the creak of the plank flooring and the low ceilings stay vividly in a child's memory. The grounds are very large, so deciding in advance which sections you want to see keeps you from walking yourself tired. You can also have lunch within the village, which helps you flow from morning into afternoon without having to leave.

青葉中央公園水遊び場は、札幌市厚別区の青葉中央公園に夏だけ現れる浅い水遊び場です。2026年は7月5日(日)から8月23日(日)まで、9:30〜16:30に開放され、利用は無料です。水深が浅いため、歩き始めたばかりの子でも自分の足で立って遊べるのが安心なところ。プールのような入れ替えや順番待ちがなく、遊びたいときに入って疲れたら木陰で休むという自由なリズムで過ごせます。午前に博物館を歩いて疲れた足を、冷たい水で休ませられるのもこの組み立てのよいところ。近所の子どもたちが集まる場所なので、その日はじめて会った子と一緒に遊びだす姿もよく見られます。

Tips

開放は9:30〜16:30です。天候不良や清掃、水質管理の都合で休みになる日があるため、出発前に札幌市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。更衣室はないので、水着は下に着ていくか、ラップタオルなどで着替えられる用意をしておきましょう。札幌の夏は日が陰ると急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとに羽織る一枚を必ず持っていってください。日陰が限られるため、レジャーシートと帽子があると休憩が楽になります。

Tips

Some streets have little shade in summer, so a hat and drinks are essential.
