Asukaze Park Water Play Area
About this spot
The Asukaze Park Water Play Area in Asukaze Park, Teine-ku, Sapporo is a shallow water play pond that is free to use. It normally opens from around Wednesday, July 1 to around Monday, August 31, from 10:00 to 16:00, and the City of Sapporo describes the period as early July to late August. What makes this water play area special are the showers from two nozzles set at different heights. The taller one pours down with enough force that elementary school children charge in with cheers. The lower one lets water fall gently, so even small children who are afraid of water can approach it, and siblings of different ages can play at their own pace. The pond itself is shallow, so you can also sit down and touch the water. Admission is free.
Season & hours
Name: 明日風公園 水遊び場
Date & time: 例年 7/1 (Wed)–8/31 (Mon) 10:00–16:00 ※札幌市の案内は「7月上旬–8月下旬」
Venue: 札幌市手稲区・明日風公園
Tips
Closing time is 16:00. Allowing for changing clothes and tidying up, get out of the water around 15:45. Standing under the showers cools the body down, so let children take breaks between play. The opening dates shift a little from year to year, so check the City of Sapporo information page for the day before you set out. Children who are not toilet trained should wear swim diapers.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours. In the afternoon, when temperatures rise, the shower water feels wonderful.
