Yatsu Tidal Flat Nature Observation Center

About this spot

An observation facility for a Ramsar Convention registered wetland, standing on the edge of the Yatsu Tidal Flat (谷津干潟), which is surrounded by residential areas. Through the large glass windows and telescopes inside, you can watch the waterbirds and crabs that gather on the flat without getting wet. Rangers are always on hand and will tell you which creatures can be seen that day, so a child's curiosity keeps expanding. The interior is air-conditioned, making it perfect for spending the sunny late morning in comfort. To save energy for the afternoon water play, a light visit is recommended.

Venue: 習志野市・県立香澄公園

習志野市の県立香澄公園にある、無料の水遊び場「香澄公園じゃぶじゃぶ池」です。2026年のシーズンは7月1日(水)から9月30日(水)まで。噴水付きの大型じゃぶじゃぶ池で、水面が浅いため小さな子でも安心して遊べます。開放時間は公式に記載がないため、当日は習志野市の案内で状況を確かめてから出かけてください。原則として毎週木曜は清掃のため利用できず、金曜の午前は水が溜まりきらず水位が低く噴水が出ない場合があります。無料駐車場が2か所(計75台)そろっているので、荷物の多い家族連れでも出かけやすいのがうれしいところです。

Tips

木曜は清掃で利用できないため、平日に行くなら木曜以外を選びましょう。金曜の午前は水位が低いことがあるので、金曜は午後に訪れると確実です。料金は無料なので、子どもの様子を見ながら短時間で切り上げる使い方もできます。水遊びのあとは体が冷えやすいので、乾いた着替えとタオルを多めに用意してください。

Tips

Closed on Mondays (the next weekday if Monday is a public holiday). What you can see on the tidal flat changes with the tide, so aiming for the hours around low tide gives the best views of crabs and birds. There is a walking path around the center that you can stroll if you have time, but there is little shade, so do not overdo it in summer. You can go around the building with a stroller.
