Asahibashi Bridge (旭橋)

About this spot

Spanning the Ishikari River, this bridge is known as a symbol of Asahikawa. The steel arch built in the early Showa period is still in active service, and its powerful curves and iron texture give the townscape a crisp edge. From the foot of the bridge and the riverbank you can look out over the wide flow of the river and the mountains continuing beyond it. Because the relationship between a great river flowing down from upstream and the bridge built to cross it is visible at a glance, it makes a good opening for talking with children about terrain and how the town came to be. There is a footway, so crossing it in the river breeze is also recommended.

旭川市の新富公園にある「新富公園徒渉池・噴水」は、無料で利用できる水遊び場です。2026年は6月1日(月)から8月31日(月)まで、時間は10:00〜17:00で利用できます。浅い徒渉池と噴水が組み合わさっていて、水しぶきを浴びて走り回る遊びと、座って静かに水にふれる遊びの両方ができます。水深が浅いため、まだ泳げない小さな子どもでも自分の足で入っていけます。屋内プールが併設されているのもこの公園の特徴で、天気の急変や水遊び場が使えない日の代わりの遊び場として頭に入れておけます。料金は無料なので、午後だけ立ち寄る使い方にも向いています。

Tips

終了は17:00です。着替えと片づけを考えて16:30ごろに水から上がると余裕をもって帰れます。天候や水温、点検作業によって噴水が止まる日があるため、出かける前に公式の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。併設の屋内プールは利用時間や料金、利用条件が別に定められているので、使う場合は事前に確認しましょう。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。

Tips

There is traffic on the bridge, so walk on the inner side of the footway and hold small children's hands. Footing on the riverbank is poor in places, so do not force your way toward the water. There is little shade, so bring a hat and something to drink.
