Miura Ayako Memorial Museum of Literature (三浦綾子記念文学館)

About this spot

A literary museum introducing the life and works of Miura Ayako, a writer born and raised in Asahikawa. The building stands within a wood called the Foreign Tree Species Arboretum (外国樹種見本林), and this very wood is the setting of her best-known work, Freezing Point (氷点). Even if you have never read the book, simply standing in the place where the story unfolds leaves a lasting impression. Walking paths run through the wood, and beneath the tall trees you can stay cool even in midsummer. The exhibits inside are quiet in mood, so dividing the visit, with children exploring the wood and adults viewing the displays, satisfies both.

旭神中央公園徒渉池は、旭川市の旭神中央公園に夏だけ開かれる浅い水遊び場です。2026年は6月1日(月)から8月31日(月)まで、10:00〜17:00に開放され、利用は無料です。水深が浅いので、歩き始めたばかりの子でも自分の足で立って遊べるのが安心なところ。入場料も入れ替えもないので、水に入って走り、疲れたら岸で休むという自由なリズムで過ごせます。神楽岡の丘に近い住宅街の公園なので、午前に神社や林を歩いてから寄るという流れが無理なく成り立ちます。夕方まで遊んで、そのまま帰路につける気軽さがこの土地の夏らしい過ごし方です。

Tips

開放は10:00〜17:00です。天候不良や清掃、水質管理の都合で休みになることがあるため、出発前に旭川市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。更衣室は用意されていない前提で、水着を下に着ていくと着替えが楽になります。日陰が限られるのでレジャーシートと帽子があると休憩が楽になります。北海道の夏は日が陰ると急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとに羽織れる薄手の一枚を必ず用意しておきましょう。

Tips

Check the admission fee and closing days on the official site in advance. Insect repellent makes walking the wood more comfortable. The paths are packed earth, so they can turn muddy after rain. The exhibition rooms are a place to be quiet, so moving your bodies in the wood first and entering the museum afterward makes for a calmer visit.
