Kamikawa Shrine (上川神社)

About this spot

A shrine long loved as the chief guardian of Asahikawa, its halls standing among the rich groves of Kaguraoka (神楽岡). The approach is covered by trees, and even in midsummer you can feel the air turn cool the moment you step in. Local people gather here for the Shichi-Go-San children's rite (七五三) and for festivals, so it is less a tourist site than a shrine at the center of the town's daily life. The precincts are wide and the gravel paths long, so for children the walk itself becomes a small adventure. Stopping somewhere quiet at the start of the day makes the liveliness of the water play that follows stand out all the more.

旭神中央公園徒渉池は、旭川市の旭神中央公園に夏だけ開かれる浅い水遊び場です。2026年は6月1日(月)から8月31日(月)まで、10:00〜17:00に開放され、利用は無料です。水深が浅いので、歩き始めたばかりの子でも自分の足で立って遊べるのが安心なところ。入場料も入れ替えもないので、水に入って走り、疲れたら岸で休むという自由なリズムで過ごせます。神楽岡の丘に近い住宅街の公園なので、午前に神社や林を歩いてから寄るという流れが無理なく成り立ちます。夕方まで遊んで、そのまま帰路につける気軽さがこの土地の夏らしい過ごし方です。

Tips

開放は10:00〜17:00です。天候不良や清掃、水質管理の都合で休みになることがあるため、出発前に旭川市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。更衣室は用意されていない前提で、水着を下に着ていくと着替えが楽になります。日陰が限られるのでレジャーシートと帽子があると休憩が楽になります。北海道の夏は日が陰ると急に涼しくなるので、上がったあとに羽織れる薄手の一枚を必ず用意しておきましょう。

Tips

Worship is free. The gravel paths are long, so a baby carrier is easier to move with than a stroller in places. Agreeing in advance not to run in the precincts is reassuring. Parking fills up on festival days, so follow the signs in the surrounding area when you park.
