Hoshioki Falls

About this spot

A waterfall in a valley just a short way in from the residential area of Hoshioki, Teine Ward. The volume of water is hard to believe for somewhere so close to the city, and the sound of the falling water and the dancing spray make the air around it distinctly cold. You need to go down steps and a slope to reach the viewing point, but the distance is short, so families can visit. This is a spot worth its weight on a hot summer day, an easy way to cool off. Seeing the falls in the morning and then playing in the stream in the afternoon lets children understand with their bodies how different the same water can look.

札幌市手稲区の手稲緑道にある「手稲緑道せせらぎ」は、遊歩道に沿って浅い水路が続く無料の水遊びスポットです。開設は例年7月1日(水)ごろから8月31日(月)ごろまで、時間は9:00〜17:00で、札幌市の案内は「7月上旬〜8月下旬」としています。水深が浅いので、まだ泳げない小さな子どもでも自分の足で入っていけます。一か所にとどまるプール型と違い、流れに沿って歩きながら遊べるのがせせらぎのおもしろさで、子どもは葉っぱを流したり石を並べたりと自分で遊びを見つけます。並木の木陰が続くため、真夏でも涼しく過ごせます。料金は無料で、短時間の立ち寄りにも向いています。

Tips

終了は17:00です。着替えと片づけを考えて16:30ごろに水から上がると余裕をもって帰れます。水路の底は場所によって滑りやすいので、水遊び用サンダルを履かせてください。遊歩道は生活道路として使われているので、自転車や歩行者に気をつけましょう。開設状況は札幌市の案内ページで事前に確認してください。

Tips

The path to the falls has steps and a steep slope, and it becomes slippery after rain. Wear shoes that are easy to walk in and hold small children by the hand. Do not go beyond the railings or down to the riverbank. Parking space is scarce, so be considerate of the nearby homes.
