The Teine Greenway Seseragi Stream on the Teine Greenway in Teine Ward, Sapporo City (札幌市手稲区) is a free water play spot where a shallow channel runs alongside the walking path. It usually opens from around Wednesday, July 1 to around Monday, August 31, from 9:00 to 17:00, and Sapporo City's information gives the period as early July to late August. The water is shallow, so even small children who cannot swim yet can walk in on their own two feet. Unlike a pool where you stay in one place, the fun of a stream is that you can play while walking along the flow, and children invent their own games, floating leaves or lining up stones. A continuous canopy of trees keeps it cool even in midsummer. Admission is free, and it also suits a short stop.

Tips

Closing is at 17:00. Allowing for changing and packing up, getting out of the water around 16:30 leaves you plenty of time to head home. The channel bed is slippery in places, so have children wear sandals for water play. The walking path is used as a local road, so watch out for bicycles and pedestrians.
