One of Japan's foremost shell mounds, designated a National Special Historic Site, in Wakaba Ward, Chiba City. A facility lets you look straight at a cut section of the shell layers, making it clear at a glance that thousands of years of daily life are stacked up beneath the ground. Outdoors stand reconstructed pit dwellings surrounded by a wide lawn, so there is room for children to walk about while you look around, which is a welcome bonus. The museum exhibits bring Jomon life into focus through the tools and foods of the time. Covering this in the morning leaves you plenty of time at the zoological park in the afternoon.

千葉市若葉区の千葉市動物公園にある水遊びスポット「千葉市動物公園中央広場の噴水」です。井戸水を使っていて、下から噴き出す水と上から落ちる水の両方で遊べるのが面白いところ。園内施設・サービスとして案内されており、噴水そのものは無料です(別途入園料が必要)。運転期間の公式な記載はなく、故障などで休止する場合があるため、当日は園の案内を確認してください。開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の稼働となっています。動物を見て回ったあとの締めくくりに、体を冷やしながら遊べるのがこの噴水の良さです。

Closed on Mondays (or the next weekday if Monday is a public holiday). The outdoor historic site area has little shade, so do not forget a hat and something to drink. The lawn gets muddy after rain, so shoes you do not mind getting dirty are reassuring.
