About this spot

This is a small zoo inside Wakayama Castle Park (和歌山城公園) that you can enter free of charge. The scale is modest, but that makes it easy for small children to walk all the way round, and the animals are close by, which is its charm. There is plenty of shade around the waterfowl pond, so it is easy walking even on a summer morning. You can stroll while looking up at the castle's stone walls, so the zoo and a castle walk come together in one place, something unique to here. Because it is free, cutting the visit short to suit a child's mood costs you nothing.

和歌山市の砂山公園に開設される、夏季限定の幼児プール「砂山公園幼児プール」です。2026年は7月18日(土)から8月12日(水)まで、午後1時から午後4時まで開設されます。対象は小学校就学前の幼児のみで、小学生以上は利用できません。保護者の同伴が必須で、水着の着用が必要です。水遊び用以外の紙おむつ・紙パンツでは利用できないため、おむつが取れていない子には水遊び用おむつを用意してください。料金は無料なので、子どもの様子を見ながら短時間で切り上げるという気軽な使い方ができます。

Tips

雨天等の気象状況により中止する場合があります。出発前に和歌山市の案内と当日の天気を確認しておくと安心です。公園に駐車場はないため、公共交通機関または近隣の有料駐車場を利用してください。午後1時の開設直後は比較的空いていることが多く、水に慣れていない子でも落ち着いて入れます。日差しの強い時間帯にあたるので、木陰での休憩と水分補給をこまめにはさみましょう。

Tips

Check opening hours and closed days in advance with the Wakayama Castle Park information. There are slopes and steps in the grounds, so with a pushchair, choosing the gentler paths makes moving around easier. There is a lot of shade, but it is still summer, so do not forget drinks and a hat. To save energy for the afternoon water play, the morning is best kept to a level where you do not move about too much.
