This is a municipal museum introducing the history and culture of Wakayama City. Through pictorial maps and everyday tools, you can trace the city's path from ancient times through its era as a castle town and on into the modern age. It is not too large, so families with small children can go all the way round while their attention still holds — just the right size. Because it is indoors and air-conditioned, it also works as a rest stop during the hours when the sun grows strong. Learning where the city's name and place names came from before heading off to play in the water makes even a familiar park look a little different.

和歌山市の太田第一公園に開設される、夏季限定の幼児プール「太田第一公園幼児プール」です。2026年は7月18日(土)から8月12日(水)まで、午前9時30分から午後12時30分まで開設されます。対象は小学校就学前の幼児のみで、小学生以上は利用できません。保護者の同伴が必須で、水着の着用が必要です。水遊び用以外の紙おむつ・紙パンツでは利用できないため、おむつが取れていない子には水遊び用おむつを用意してください。料金は無料で、午前中の比較的涼しい時間に遊べるのが小さな子にはありがたいところです。

Tips

雨天等の気象状況により中止する場合があります。出発前に和歌山市の案内と当日の天気を確認しておくと安心です。公園に駐車場はないため、公共交通機関または近隣の有料駐車場を利用してください。午後12時30分で終了なので、着替えの時間を見て12時15分ごろには水からあがるとあわてずに済みます。遊び終えたらそのまま昼ごはんにできるよう、あらかじめ食事の場所を決めておくとスムーズです。

Tips

Check opening hours, closed days and admission fees on the official website in advance. Fees may change during special exhibitions. The galleries are a quiet space, so a word to small children beforehand keeps things smooth. Lingering here will cut into your pool time, so wrapping up in about 40 minutes is the trick to this course.
