This shrine sits atop a small hill jutting out along the coast of Kimitsu. The approach is a long flight of stone steps, and when you turn around at the top, you can look out over Tokyo Bay and the industrial zone, with the far shore visible on clear days. For children, the experience itself — a rewarding view waiting at the end of a tough climb — tends to stick in the memory. Surrounded by trees, the stairway lets a breeze through even in summer, so it feels cool along the way. Take in this uniquely Kimitsu scenery, where sea and factories coexist, while the morning is still fresh.

Tips

The stone steps are long, so if you have small children, climb slowly and drink water along the way. Shoes with good grip are reassuring. There is also a road that leads up by car, but drive carefully, as some sections are narrow. The shrine grounds are a place of worship, so remind children not to run around. If you want to avoid the sun, the earliest part of the morning is the most comfortable time to visit.
