This municipal museum stands in a corner of Sodegaura Park, home to the Upper Pond and the Lower Pond. It exhibits the history of the area and the tools of a life supported by farming and fishing, revealing layers of time that the present-day townscape does not show. The exhibition rooms are compact, so even small children can go round the whole thing while their concentration lasts, which is a real plus. Step outside and you can walk along the pond, so indoor and outdoor are linked by only a short move. Spending the hot morning hours indoors and saving your energy for the afternoon in the water is a structure that works well in summer.

袖ケ浦市の「百目木公園せせらぎ」は、自噴井戸からくみ上げた地下水を自然石の流れに通している無料の水遊び場です。水道水ではなく地下水を使っているため、真夏でもひんやりとした感触があり、足を入れた瞬間の驚きがこの公園ならではの体験になります。石を組んだ流れなので水の動きに変化があり、せき止めたり水路を作ったりと、子どもが自分で遊び方を見つけられます。大型遊具と芝生広場もそろっていて、体が冷えたら遊具で温まり、暑くなったらまた水へ、と1日中遊びが途切れません。利用は無料で、2026年の開設期間は未発表、例年は夏休み期間に水が流れます。なお夏季の屋外プールは別施設なので、目的地を取り違えないよう注意してください。

開設期間が未発表のため、出かける前に袖ケ浦市の案内で当日の通水状況を確認してください。地下水は冷たいので、小さな子は長時間つかりすぎないよう、こまめに上がって体を温めましょう。自然石は滑りやすく角もあるため、素足ではなくマリンシューズやサンダルが安心です。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意し、遊んだあとは足をよく洗い流してください。
