A museum just east of Wakayama Castle (和歌山城) that introduces the history and culture of Wakayama. Materials connected to the Kishu Tokugawa family, along with Buddhist statues and paintings handed down at temples and shrines in the prefecture, are on display, giving you an overall sense of how this land developed. The exhibition rooms are compact, so even families with small children can make a full round while attention still holds. The air-conditioned interior lets you spend a strongly sunlit morning in comfort. Going around the indoor exhibits first thing is also the aim of this course, saving energy for the afternoon water play.

Venue: 和歌山市・新南公園

和歌山市の新南公園に開設される、夏季限定の幼児プール「新南公園幼児プール」です。2026年は7月18日(土)から8月12日(水)まで、午後1時から午後4時まで開設されます。対象は小学校就学前の幼児のみで、小学生以上は利用できません。保護者の同伴が必須で、水着の着用が必要です。水遊び用以外の紙おむつ・紙パンツでは利用できないため、おむつが取れていない子には水遊び用おむつを用意してください。料金は無料なので、様子を見ながら短時間で切り上げるという気軽な使い方ができるのもありがたいところです。

Tips

雨天等の気象状況により中止する場合があります。出発前に和歌山市の案内と当日の天気を確認しておくと安心です。公園に駐車場はないため、公共交通機関または近隣の有料駐車場を利用してください。午後1時の開設直後は比較的空いていることが多く、水に慣れていない子でも落ち着いて入れます。日差しの強い時間帯なので、木陰での休憩と水分補給をこまめにはさみましょう。

Tips

Check opening hours, closed days, and admission fees on the official website in advance. Fees may differ during special exhibitions. Because the galleries are a quiet space, a word to small children beforehand makes things go smoothly. The Wakayama Prefectural Museum of Modern Art (和歌山県立近代美術館) stands next door, so if you have time and energy to spare, try at least admiring the building.
