Oka Park (岡公園)

About this spot

A park spreading out on the south side of Wakayama Castle (和歌山城) and much loved by local people. Inside, a steam locomotive and a streetcar that once ran through the streets of Wakayama are preserved, and being able to see the real thing up close is a big draw for children. There are play equipment and open spaces too, so kids can let off the energy they held in at the museum. Since you walk while looking up at the castle's stone walls, you can taste the atmosphere of the castle town without going all the way to Wakayama Castle. A little light movement in the morning also sets just the right rhythm for the afternoon water play.

Venue: 和歌山市・新南公園

和歌山市の新南公園に開設される、夏季限定の幼児プール「新南公園幼児プール」です。2026年は7月18日(土)から8月12日(水)まで、午後1時から午後4時まで開設されます。対象は小学校就学前の幼児のみで、小学生以上は利用できません。保護者の同伴が必須で、水着の着用が必要です。水遊び用以外の紙おむつ・紙パンツでは利用できないため、おむつが取れていない子には水遊び用おむつを用意してください。料金は無料なので、様子を見ながら短時間で切り上げるという気軽な使い方ができるのもありがたいところです。

Tips

雨天等の気象状況により中止する場合があります。出発前に和歌山市の案内と当日の天気を確認しておくと安心です。公園に駐車場はないため、公共交通機関または近隣の有料駐車場を利用してください。午後1時の開設直後は比較的空いていることが多く、水に慣れていない子でも落ち着いて入れます。日差しの強い時間帯なので、木陰での休憩と水分補給をこまめにはさみましょう。

Tips

Some stretches have little shade, so do not forget a hat and drinks. Whether you can go inside the vehicles depends on how they are opened to visitors, so it is easier on everyone to come prepared to enjoy them from the outside alone. Keeping it to a light morning walk rather than a long stay leaves you energetic for the afternoon.
