About this spot

A prefectural facility where you can walk right through the Iwase Senzuka Tumulus Group (岩橋千塚古墳群), a nationally designated special historic site. Burial mounds are scattered all over the hill, and some let you peer inside the stone chambers, which for children is exploration itself. The exhibition hall lines up excavated haniwa figures and grave goods, so the mounds you saw outside and the displays connect in your mind. There is also a relocated old farmhouse, where an earthen floor and sunken hearth let you imagine daily life long ago. Since you walk a little along the hill paths, going round in the morning is safer in summer.

和歌山市の「道の駅四季の郷公園四季の小川(四季の広場)」は、広場の中央を流れる浅い人工の小川です。和歌山市公式は「中央に流れる四季の小川では、季節ごとの水辺を楽しめます」と紹介しており、夏は水に足を入れて涼むのにちょうどよい場所になります。メダカやトンボ、水生昆虫などの観察もできるので、水遊びと生きもの探しを行き来しながら長い時間を過ごせます。入園も駐車場も無料で、BBQ・体験農園等は有料です。園内には見晴らしの丘のターザンロープ・ボルダリング・すべり台、幼児向け遊具のつき山の遊び場もあり、水に飽きたら遊具、遊具に飽きたらまた水と、子どもが自分のペースで遊び続けられます。

Tips

水遊びの開設期間は公式に未発表ですが、小川は常時流れており、公園自体は24時間開放されています。天候や管理の都合で水の状態が変わることがあるため、当日の様子を見て入るか判断してください。川底や小石で足を切らないよう、マリンシューズなど足を守れる履き物が安心です。生きものを観察したら、その場に返してあげましょう。直売所とレストランが園内にあるので、忘れ物をしてもある程度は現地で補えます。

Tips

Check opening hours, closed days and admission fees on the official website in advance. The hill trails are undulating, so wear comfortable walking shoes. Insect repellent makes summer visits more pleasant. Trying to see everything takes time, so limiting yourself to the exhibition hall and a few nearby mounds saves energy for the afternoon water play.
