A restaurant inside Shiki-no-Sato Park Roadside Station. Dishes made with local ingredients are on offer, and you can eat while looking out at the park's greenery. Because it is inside the grounds, the water play area is just a short walk away, which is a relief and means little moving about even with small children. On the same site is the Mizu-no-Ichiba farm produce market, where you can pick up seasonal vegetables, fruit and snacks. The Honoo-no-Irori barbecue area is here as well, so another way to enjoy the place is to come back another day with a barbecue in mind.

和歌山市の「道の駅四季の郷公園四季の小川(四季の広場)」は、広場の中央を流れる浅い人工の小川です。和歌山市公式は「中央に流れる四季の小川では、季節ごとの水辺を楽しめます」と紹介しており、夏は水に足を入れて涼むのにちょうどよい場所になります。メダカやトンボ、水生昆虫などの観察もできるので、水遊びと生きもの探しを行き来しながら長い時間を過ごせます。入園も駐車場も無料で、BBQ・体験農園等は有料です。園内には見晴らしの丘のターザンロープ・ボルダリング・すべり台、幼児向け遊具のつき山の遊び場もあり、水に飽きたら遊具、遊具に飽きたらまた水と、子どもが自分のペースで遊び続けられます。

Tips

水遊びの開設期間は公式に未発表ですが、小川は常時流れており、公園自体は24時間開放されています。天候や管理の都合で水の状態が変わることがあるため、当日の様子を見て入るか判断してください。川底や小石で足を切らないよう、マリンシューズなど足を守れる履き物が安心です。生きものを観察したら、その場に返してあげましょう。直売所とレストランが園内にあるので、忘れ物をしてもある程度は現地で補えます。

Tips

Check business hours and closing days on the official website in advance. It gets busy around noon on weekends and holidays, so you can shift to the second half of the 11 o'clock hour, or buy something at the market and eat it in the shade. Barbecues and the hands-on farm cost extra and may require reservations in advance. It is also reassuring to buy the drinks and towels you will want after water play here.
