Tajimagahara Wild Primrose Habitat (First Designated Area)

About this spot

A wild habitat of Japanese primrose spreading across the Arakawa riverbed. It is the only place in Japan designated a National Special Natural Monument, and it is astonishing that such precious nature remains in an urban area. The primroses bloom only in a limited period in spring, but in other seasons you can still walk the boardwalks laid out through the grassland and enjoy the open scenery. Talking with children about why this place is special turns a plain meadow into somewhere special. Entry is free.

さいたま市桜区の「荒川総合運動公園通り水遊び場」です。2026年は5月1日(金)から10月末頃(2026年は10月31日(土)頃)まで、9:00〜17:00の時間帯に利用できます(清掃等により利用できない場合あり)。遊歩道沿いに噴水と浅い流れが設けられていて、利用は無料。半年近くにわたって開いているのが最大の特徴で、真夏の混雑を避けて初夏や秋口に訪れるという選択ができます。荒川の広い河川敷に近い開けた立地なので、景色がのびやかで気持ちがよいのもこの場所ならでは。散歩の途中に足を冷やす、といった気軽な使い方もできます。

Tips

清掃等により利用できない日があるため、遠方から向かう場合はさいたま市公園緑地協会の案内で当日の状況を確認しておくと安心です。日陰が少ない場所もあるので、日よけと飲み物は多めに用意しましょう。更衣室の記載はないので、水着は服の下に着ていくのが確実。水遊び後は水道で足をよく洗い、こまめに休憩をはさんでください。

Tips

There is almost no shade, so a hat and drinks are essential. The grass grows thick in summer, so insect repellent makes walking more comfortable. Tell children beforehand not to step off the boardwalk into the grass. The flowering season is spring, so if you visit in summer, think of it as a place to enjoy the scenery and the meaning of its protection.
