Yono Park (与野公園)
About this spot
A historic park in Chuo-ku, Saitama City, opened in the Meiji era. The greatest highlight is the rose garden inside, where many varieties are grown and which draws visitors from outside the city when the blooms are at their best. Groves of large zelkova and cherry trees grow thick, so even in summer you can choose a shaded route as you walk, which is a real blessing. There is play equipment and an open space too, so children will not get bored even while looking at flowers. As a park long loved by local people, it conveys the calm atmosphere of the town of Yono. Admission is free.
Tips
Roses are at their best in spring and autumn, so in summer it is better to think of it as a place to enjoy the green of the groves and their shade. Do not forget a hat around the flower beds, where there is little shade. There are drinking fountains in the park, so keep topping up your fluids as you walk.
Best time to visit
About 55 minutes. The cool morning hours are the most pleasant for walking
