Sasamuta Shrine (西寒多神社)

Standing in Samuta, Oita City, this shrine has long drawn worshippers as the head shrine of Bungo Province. The grounds are covered with trees, so the approach stays cool even in midsummer, making it just right for an early morning stroll. The vermilion Mannen Bridge (萬年橋) in front of the main hall is a wonderfully photogenic sight, and children enjoy it simply by crossing. The shrine is also known for its wisteria, and it is the kind of place you will want to visit again in another season. Ask here for a safe day before heading off to play in the water.

大分市稙田地区にある七瀬川自然公園の「七瀬川自然公園せせらぎ水路」は、26,000平方メートルの芝生広場を囲むように流れる全長約300メートルの水路です。水深が浅くゆるやかな流れなので、歩いたり座ったり、水をすくったりと、小さな子どもでも自分のペースで水に親しめます。水路のまわりは見晴らしのよい芝生で、保護者が木陰から見守りやすいのも安心なポイント。遊具広場にはいろいろな滑り台のある複合遊具やターザンロープがあり、小さい子ども用の遊具もそろっているので、水から上がったあとも遊びが途切れません。あやとり橋を渡ったり、休憩施設「ななせの家」でひと息ついたりと、園内だけで一日が過ぎていきます。バーベキューエリアや野外ステージ、多目的グラウンドも備えた広い公園で、夏の定番のおでかけ先です。

Tips

せせらぎ水路の通水期間は大分市の公式ページに記載がないため、出発前に大分市へ確認しておくと確実です。日陰を確保するにはワンタッチテントかタープがあると快適で、木陰の場所は早い時間ほど取りやすくなります。水路の底は場所によって滑りやすいので、かかとの留まる水遊び用サンダルを履かせてください。着替えは一人2セットあると、遊具遊びに戻るときも気持ちよく過ごせます。

Tips

There is a parking lot, so you can stop by with a car. The approach has gravel and stone steps, so a baby carrier moves more easily than a stroller in places. In summer, insect repellent is reassuring even within the grounds.
