The Nanasegawa Nature Park Seseragi Stream Channel at Nanasegawa Nature Park in the Wasada district of Oita City is a waterway about 300 meters long that flows around a 26,000-square-meter lawn plaza. The water is shallow and the current gentle, so even small children can get used to the water at their own pace, walking, sitting or scooping up water. The channel is surrounded by open lawn, which makes it easy for guardians to keep watch from the shade, another reassuring point. The play area has a combination structure with a variety of slides and a zip line, plus equipment for younger children, so the fun does not stop once they come out of the water. Between crossing Ayatori Bridge and pausing at the rest facility Nanase House, a whole day can pass inside the park alone. With a barbecue area, an outdoor stage and a multipurpose ground as well, this spacious park is a summer outing standard.

Tips

The official Oita City page does not state the period when water runs through the channel, so checking with Oita City before you set out is the sure way to go. A pop-up tent or tarp makes securing shade comfortable, and shaded spots are easier to claim earlier in the day. The bottom of the channel is slippery in places, so have children wear water sandals with heel straps. Two changes of clothes per person means everyone stays comfortable when going back to the play equipment.
