This prefectural facility preserves and displays materials unearthed from archaeological sites in Oita Prefecture. Through exhibits of earthenware, stone tools and ornaments, you can truly feel that people have lived on the very land you are walking since ancient times. The displays are clearly organized, so even children can go around asking what each item was used for. Admission is free and the building is air-conditioned, so starting a hot day here in the morning makes good sense. Slip in one quiet stretch of time before the water play.

大分市の屋外モール型商業施設に夏だけ現れる「パークプレイス大分水遊びスポット」は、2026年は7月18日(土)から9月13日(日)まで、10時から18時まで開かれる参加無料の水遊び場です。1Fセンターステージには約10メートルもの水が噴き出す「くじらキャノン」と、水のアーチをくぐる「ウォーターブリッジ」。3Fシャングリラには、いつ落ちてくるかわからない「びっくりバケツ」と、やさしく降り注ぐ「天空しゃわ〜」が用意され、子どもの好みや年齢に合わせて遊び分けられます。水に慣れていない小さな子は3Fのやさしいシャワーから、思い切り遊びたい子は1Fの豪快な噴水から、というように選べるのがこの水遊びスポットのよいところ。商業施設の中なので、トイレも食事も着替えも近くで済ませられ、急な雨でも屋内へ避難できます。無料で夕方まで遊べる、夏の街なかの定番です。

Tips

開催時間や稼働のタイミングは日によって変わるため、当日の館内案内で確認してください。ぬれてもよい服とサンダルで参加し、着替えは一人1セット以上持っていくと安心です。館内へ戻る前に体をよく拭き、ぬれた服は防水袋にまとめると移動が楽になります。夕方は日差しがやわらぐ一方で気温も下がるので、羽織るものがあると湯冷めを防げます。
