This vast park was laid out to make the most of hilly terrain, with lawn plazas and walking paths spreading out around a stadium notable for its great roof. Even on days without a match, the plazas and paths inside the park are open, giving a sense of freedom where you can run around to your heart's content. From the high ground you can look out over the townscape of Oita, and the breeze passes through well, so it is an easy place to walk even in summer. Bringing one lightweight plaything such as a ball or bubbles raises everyone's satisfaction. To save energy for the afternoon in the water, wrapping up before you overdo it is just the right balance.

大分市の屋外モール型商業施設に夏だけ現れる「パークプレイス大分水遊びスポット」は、2026年は7月18日(土)から9月13日(日)まで、10時から18時まで開かれる参加無料の水遊び場です。1Fセンターステージには約10メートルもの水が噴き出す「くじらキャノン」と、水のアーチをくぐる「ウォーターブリッジ」。3Fシャングリラには、いつ落ちてくるかわからない「びっくりバケツ」と、やさしく降り注ぐ「天空しゃわ〜」が用意され、子どもの好みや年齢に合わせて遊び分けられます。水に慣れていない小さな子は3Fのやさしいシャワーから、思い切り遊びたい子は1Fの豪快な噴水から、というように選べるのがこの水遊びスポットのよいところ。商業施設の中なので、トイレも食事も着替えも近くで済ませられ、急な雨でも屋内へ避難できます。無料で夕方まで遊べる、夏の街なかの定番です。

Tips

開催時間や稼働のタイミングは日によって変わるため、当日の館内案内で確認してください。ぬれてもよい服とサンダルで参加し、着替えは一人1セット以上持っていくと安心です。館内へ戻る前に体をよく拭き、ぬれた服は防水袋にまとめると移動が楽になります。夕方は日差しがやわらぐ一方で気温も下がるので、羽織るものがあると湯冷めを防げます。

Tips

On event days part of the parking lot or the park paths may be unavailable, so check the schedule of events before you head over. Some areas have little shade, so a hat and drinks are essential. The park is large and undulating, so decide on a range to cover when walking with small children.
