Park Place Oita Water Play Spot
About this spot
The Park Place Oita Water Play Spot appears only in summer at an open-air mall-style shopping complex in Oita City. In 2026 it is open from Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and taking part is free. The 1F Center Stage has the Whale Cannon, which shoots water up as high as about 10 meters, and the Water Bridge, where you pass under an arch of water. On 3F Shangri-La there are the Surprise Bucket, which tips over when you least expect it, and the gently falling Sky Shower, so children can play according to their taste and age. Small children who are not used to water can start with the gentle shower on 3F, while those who want to play all out can take on the bold fountain on 1F, and that choice is what makes this water play spot so good. Because it is inside a shopping complex, restrooms, meals and changing are all close at hand, and you can take shelter indoors if it suddenly rains. Free and open until evening, it is a summer standard right in the middle of town.

Tips
Opening hours and the timing of each feature vary by day, so check the in-house information on the day. Come in clothes and sandals that can get wet, and bringing at least one change of clothes per person is reassuring. Dry off well before going back inside, and gathering wet clothes into a waterproof bag makes moving around easier. In the evening the sunlight softens but the temperature drops as well, so something to throw on keeps anyone from getting chilled.
Best time to visit
About 4 hours. Since it runs until 6 p.m., after 3 p.m., when the sunlight softens, is an especially pleasant time of day.
