Takeda Park Babbling Stream Waterway
About this spot
The Takeda Park Babbling Stream Waterway in Takeda Park (竹田公園), Wakamiya-machi, Hita City, is a shallow water channel where small children can play. Roughly 110 meters long and 2 to 25 meters wide, it has a relaxed layout that lets children get to know the water at their own pace, whether following the current on foot or sitting down where it widens. The open period is July 1 to August 31, Reiwa 8 (2026), and use is free. When you climb out of the water, inclusive play equipment awaits, such as a combination structure with three slides and a supported swing, designed so that all kinds of children can play together. Because it is a crescent-shaped park facing the Mikuma River (三隈川), the river breeze passes through and the shade feels cooler than you might expect. Along with the playground area and multipurpose field, there is also a sumo ring, three tennis courts and a 50-meter pool, making it a summer staple that local families visit again and again.

Tips
The waterway cannot be used on cleaning days (July 10, 17, 23 and 30, and August 6, 12, 20 and 27), so be sure to check before fixing your date. Shaded spots are limited, so a pop-up tent or tarp will make your stay more comfortable. Parts of the channel bed are slippery, so have children wear water sandals with a heel strap. Since the park faces the Mikuma River (三隈川), an adult must always accompany children when going out to the riverside.
