Ishito Kaba-zakura Cherry Tree

About this spot

Standing in the grounds of Tokoji Temple (東光寺) in Ishitoshuku, Kitamoto City, this ancient tree is counted among Japan's five great cherry trees. It is one of the nine sites first designated National Natural Monuments in the Taisho era, giving it a distinguished pedigree. Even outside the blossom season, looking up at the thick trunk and the branches held by supports makes you feel how many centuries this tree has stood here. A legend connected to Minamoto no Noriyori (源範頼) also survives, and telling that story to your children changes how the tree looks. As a place that could be called the face of the town of Kitamoto, it is a fitting first stop for the day.

北本市の北本市子供公園にある「北本市子供公園せせらぎ」です。利用できるのは例年4月下旬から9月まで(2026年は4月25日(土)頃〜9月30日(水)頃)、9:30〜17:00の時間帯です。第4月曜は休園(祝日の場合は翌日)なので、その日は避けて計画してください。小さな滝と川、じゃぶじゃぶ池がつながった造りで、水の流れをたどりながら遊べるのが子どもには何より楽しいところ。さらにふわふわドームやすべり台、噴水エリアもそろっているので、水に飽きたら遊具、遊具に飽きたらまた水と、自分のペースで一日中遊び続けられます。利用は無料で、4月下旬から9月末まで長く開いているのも計画を立てやすい点です。

Tips

第4月曜は休園です(祝日の場合は翌日が休園)。日程を決めるときに必ず確認してください。ふわふわドームは日差しで表面が熱くなることがあるので、触れる前に確かめましょう。水と遊具を行き来するので、着替えは多めに用意しておくと快適です。水遊び後は水道で足をよく洗い、木陰で休憩をはさみながら遊んでください。

Tips

Viewing is free, but as this is a natural monument, please take care not to step inside the fence. The blossoms peak in early April, and the site is crowded then. The surroundings are homes and temple grounds, so keep your visit quiet. Parking space is limited, so checking nearby car parks in advance is reassuring on busy days.
