About this spot

Located in Fujisaka-Higashi-cho, Hirakata City, this site is said to be the tomb of Dr. Wani, who is credited with bringing the Analects of Confucius and the Thousand Character Classic to ancient Japan. It's a quiet spot surrounded by trees, with hardly anyone around in the morning, so you can take your time listening to birdsong. There is a stone monument and an information board, giving you a chance to tell your children about the old connection between Osaka and the Korean Peninsula. The site isn't large, so a visit is fairly short, but knowing this area's unique background as the starting point of your day's outing changes how you see the rest of the park a little. There's plenty of shade in summer, so it's recommended to stop by in the morning before it gets hot.

Tips

It's within walking distance of Fujisaka Station on the JR Gakkentoshi Line; if driving, use a nearby parking lot. Facilities here are minimal, so it's smoother to plan on using restrooms after you move on to Yamadaike Park. Reading the information board together as a family, you can go around the whole site in about 10 minutes.

Best time to visit

About 40 minutes. Early morning, before the sun grows strong, is the most comfortable time.
