Iris Garden (菖蒲園)

About this spot

These are iris beds laid out at the waterside in the south district of Yamadaike Park. A boardwalk crosses them, letting you see the flowers and water plants up close from just above the surface, so even small children can walk without getting bored. In early summer the blue-purple blooms line up, and as the season moves on the waterside greenery and the waterbirds take the leading role. This is one of the breeziest spots in the park, and the coolness created by the shade of the trees and the reflection off the water makes it a pleasant area. Walking here slowly before the water play, and getting a feel for the lay of the whole park, makes the afternoon easier.

山田池公園流れ（せせらぎ水遊び場）は、南地区の芝生広場横に設けられた約170mの人工水路です。2026年のシーズンは5/1(金)〜9/30(水)の8:00〜15:00、夏休み期間の7/17〜8/31は8:00〜16:00に延長されます。水深が浅く流れもゆるやかなので、歩き始めの子どもでも自分の足で上流へ下流へと移動しながら遊べるのが魅力です。長い水路なので、混雑する日でも場所を選べば自分たちのペースで過ごせます。8/12(水)は清掃のため終日休止になる点だけ、出発前に必ず確認しておきましょう。園内にトイレと駐車場がそろい、料金は無料なので、手ぶらに近い装備で夏の午後をまるごと使えます。

Tips

水路の底は場所によってすべりやすいので、脱げにくい水遊び用サンダルがあると安心です。更衣室はない前提で、上から着られるラップタオルやポンチョを用意しておくと着替えがスムーズ。日陰は水路沿いの木の下に限られるので、日焼け止めと帽子は必須です。8:00から開いているため、猛暑日は午前の早い時間に切り替える計画も立てられます。

Tips

The boardwalk is narrow and has sections without handrails, so always hold small children's hands as you walk. Strollers do better avoiding the boardwalk and taking the outer park path around. Being at the waterside, mosquitoes come out morning and evening, so one spray of repellent before you go in keeps it pleasant.
