About this spot

This is a waterside iris field laid out in the northern district of Yamadaike Park. A boardwalk crosses over it, letting you see the flowers and water plants up close from just above the water's surface, so even small children can walk along without getting bored. In early summer, blue-purple flowers line the field, and as the season progresses, waterside greenery and waterfowl take over as the main attraction. This is a spot where the breeze passes through especially well, and the cool feeling created by the shade of the trees and the reflections on the water surface is pleasant. Taking a relaxed walk here before water play, to get a feel for the park's overall layout, makes moving around easier in the afternoon.

Tips

The boardwalk is narrow, and some sections have no handrail, so be sure to hold hands with small children while walking. For strollers, avoid the boardwalk and take the route around the perimeter path instead, which is easier to pass through. Since it's a waterside area, mosquitoes appear in the morning and evening. Applying insect repellent before entering makes for a more comfortable visit.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. The slanting morning light makes the water's surface look especially beautiful.
