About this spot

A facility that exhibits year-round the yamahoko festival floats actually pulled through the streets at the Hita Gion Festival held every July. Because you can look up at the towering floats from close range indoors, you can experience their size and the fineness of their decoration even if you cannot come on the festival day itself. There are also festival music and video displays of the rites, making it a place to feel the atmosphere of a Hita summer. Being indoors, it is also a reliable refuge during the hottest hours. Learning this region's summer story before the water play deepens the memory of the day.

Tips

Admission fees and opening hours can change, so check the Hita City information before visiting. It is an air-conditioned indoor exhibition, so slotting it in around midday when the sun is strongest helps conserve energy. Just before the Gion Festival the floats may not be on display because they are being used for the rites, so check in advance if you visit during the festival period. A visit of about 30 to 40 minutes is enough.
