Kashihara City Insectarium (橿原市昆虫館)

About this spot

A municipal insectarium at the foot of Mount Kagu (香久山) where you can enjoy both living insects and specimens. The greatest highlight is the butterfly greenhouse, where colorful butterflies flutter right in front of you all year round and you will want to gently reach out a hand. The specimen room lines up insects from around the world, and the differences in size and shape often absorb the adults even more than the children. Everything is under a roof, so you can stay cool even on a day with strong sunshine. Enjoy a quiet morning here and save your energy for the afternoon water play.

「新沢千塚古墳群公園龍の広場(龍の池・龍の噴水)」は、古墳群の丘に囲まれた公園の中にある無料の水遊び場です。橿原市の公式案内によると、龍の噴水は8時から18時まで運転し、ミストの運転期間は5月から10月までとなっています。井戸水を使っているため水量は変動し、勢いよく出る日もあれば穏やかな日もあるという自然まかせの表情が魅力です。龍の広場では水遊びのほかに芝すべりや遊具でも遊べるので、水に飽きたら丘へ、丘に飽きたらまた水へと、子どもが自分のペースで一日を組み立てられます。園内には桜の広場や棚田の広場が広がり、歴史に憩う橿原市博物館やシルクの杜、OTENKIテラスも同じ敷地にそろっています。料金は無料なので、短時間だけ立ち寄る使い方もできます。

Tips

清掃日は火曜・金曜で、清掃後は池に水が溜まるまで約半日かかります(雨天等により変更の場合あり)。この曜日に行く場合は午後遅めに合わせるか、別の日を選ぶと確実です。井戸水のため水量が日によって変わるので、噴水の勢いを期待しすぎず、ミストや芝すべりも含めて楽しむ計画にしておくと安心。芝すべりをするなら段ボールやヒップそりを持参し、遊んだあとは水道で足をよく洗ってから着替えましょう。

Tips

Check the opening days and admission fees on the official website in advance. The butterfly greenhouse is humid, so clothing you can shed a layer from is more comfortable. Telling children beforehand to look gently and not touch the butterflies is reassuring. Nizawa Senzuka Tumulus Park is about a 10-minute drive away, so moving on before noon keeps the day flowing smoothly.
