Dragon Plaza at Nizawa Senzuka Tumulus Park (Dragon Pond and Dragon Fountain)
About this spot
The Dragon Plaza at Nizawa Senzuka Tumulus Park, with its Dragon Pond and Dragon Fountain, is a free water play area inside a park ringed by burial mound hills. According to Kashihara City's official information, the Dragon Fountain runs from 8:00 to 18:00, and the mist operates from May through October. Because it uses well water, the volume varies: some days it gushes strongly, other days it is gentle, and that dependence on nature is part of its charm. At the Dragon Plaza you can also enjoy grass sledding and play equipment as well as water, so children can build their own day, moving to the hill when they tire of the water and back to the water when they tire of the hill. The grounds include a Cherry Blossom Plaza and a Terraced Field Plaza, and the Kashihara City Museum of History, the Silk no Mori facility and the OTENKI Terrace are all on the same site. Admission is free, so a short visit works fine too.
Season & hours
Name:
Venue: 橿原市・新沢千塚古墳群公園
Tips
Cleaning days are Tuesday and Friday, and after cleaning it takes about half a day for the pond to refill (this may change due to rain and other conditions). If you go on those days, aim for later in the afternoon or choose another day to be sure. Since the well water volume changes from day to day, do not count too much on a strong fountain; planning to enjoy the mist and grass sledding as well keeps everyone happy. For grass sledding, bring cardboard or a hip sled, and after playing wash your feet well at the tap before changing clothes.
Best time to visit
About 3 hours 30 minutes. The afternoon, when the sun softens, is recommended and leaves plenty of time before the fountain stops at 18:00.
