Minamikawa Dam

About this spot

This dam in Taiwa Town (大和町) holds back the water that forms the reservoir known as Lake Nanatsumori. You can walk along the top of the embankment and enjoy both views at once: a broad expanse of water on one side and a deeply plunging valley on the other. Seeing a large structure up close is an experience that stays in a child memory, and it becomes a chance to talk about where water comes from and where it flows. Around it stand several small mountains known as Nanatsumori, and looking for the origin of the name while you gaze at them makes for an enjoyable time. There is little shade, so this is a stop best kept short before moving on.

Season & hours

Name:

Venue:

Tips

Tips

The wind can be strong on top of the embankment on some days, so take care that hats are not blown away. Agree with children in advance not to lean out over the railings. There are no shops, so prepare drinks beforehand. Whether the dam management facility is open to visitors varies from day to day.

Best time to visit

About 50 minutes. The mountain range is clearly visible in the morning when the air is crisp.
