Kamafusa Dam

This dam sits right next to Michinoku Lakeside Park, and the reservoir it created is Lake Kamafusa (釜房湖). From the top of the embankment you can take in the wide surface of the lake and, beyond it, the ridgeline of the Zao Mountains (蔵王連峰) all at once. Telling your children that this is an important water source supplying cities such as Sendai changes how they see the water they will play in later that day. Seeing a huge structure up close tends to stay in a child's memory, making it a fitting view to start the day with. Keep the visit short so it lines up with the park's opening time, then move straight on to the park for a smooth flow.

国営みちのく杜の湖畔公園の子ども向けエリア、わらすこひろばの中を流れる「せせらぎ水路」です。水深は足首程度で底が舗装されているため、歩き始めたばかりの子でも大人が手を添えれば安心して水にふれられます。同じエリアにローラースライダーなどの遊具がそろっているので、水に飽きたら遊具、走り疲れたらまた水へと自分のペースで遊べます。園内にはレストランとトイレがあり、食事や着替えの心配が少ないのも家族連れにはありがたいところ。入園料は大人(15歳以上)450円、中学生以下無料、シルバー(65歳以上)210円で、別に駐車料が普通車400円かかります。開園は9:30から17:00までで、目の前に釜房湖と蔵王連峰が広がる景色の中で過ごせます。

Tips

開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の運用です。出かける前に公園の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。閉園は17:00なので、着替えと片づけの時間を見込んで16:45には水遊びを切り上げてください。火曜は休園ですが、7月の第3月曜から8月31日(月)までは無休です。水深は浅くても目を離さず、大人が必ず付き添ってください。舗装面は濡れると滑りやすいので、足を守れるマリンシューズがあると安心です。園内は広く駐車場から距離があるので、荷物はまとめて運べるようにしておきましょう。

Tips

There is no shade on the embankment and the wind is strong, so be careful not to let hats blow away. Agree with your children in advance not to lean out over the railings. There is no kiosk, so bring drinks with you. The park opens at 9:30, so adjust how long you stay here to match.
