Tohoku History Museum (東北歴史博物館)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This is a Miyagi prefectural museum in Tagajo City, right beside Kokufu-Tagajo Station (国府多賀城駅). Its distinctive feature is that you can trace the story of the Tohoku region from the Paleolithic era to modern times through full-scale reconstructed buildings and large-scale displays. Many exhibits convey their meaning through size and shape, so even children too young to read the captions are unlikely to get bored. Hands-on corners and special exhibitions are sometimes prepared, so checking the notices before you walk around makes the visit more efficient. Since you can stay cool indoors, it also helps everyone save energy for the afternoon water play, which makes it a well-matched combination.

Tips

Check closed days, opening hours and admission fees on the official website in advance. The exhibition area is large, so with small children it is less tiring to focus on just part of the permanent exhibition. The layout is easy to get around with a stroller. There is a parking lot, so you can stop by car as well.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. The morning, before the sun gets strong, is most comfortable
