Moririn Kasenuma Park Play Park Area (water play and sand play)

About this spot

This is the Moririn Kasenuma Park Play Park Area (water play and sand play) in Rifu Town, Miyagi Prefecture. Because water play and sand play happen in the same place, its greatest appeal is that children invent their own games, scooping water and pouring it onto the sand or running water through the channels they dig. Use is free, and since it sits inside a large park surrounding the pond of Kasenuma (加瀬沼), you can take it easy with views of the waterside and the woods. The management building has a multipurpose space, a nursing room and a diaper changing space, making it easy for families with babies to set up a base. From April to September the opening hours are long, from 8:00 to 18:00, so you can play into the evening as the sun softens.

Tips

The operating period has not been announced, and in past years it has run through the summer holidays. Check the facility information for the day's status before you go. The park opens at 8:00 and closes at 18:00, so allowing time for changing and packing up and finishing before 17:00 leaves you plenty of margin for the trip home. Children get dirty from both sand and water, so bring plenty of spare clothes plus towels and plastic bags for brushing off sand. Even though the water is shallow, never take your eyes off children and always have an adult with them. Checking where the restrooms and nursing room are in the management building when you arrive makes everything afterwards easier.

Best time to visit

About 3 hours 30 minutes. From afternoon into evening, when the sun softens, is most comfortable
