Tsutsujigaoka Tenmangu Shrine (榴岡天満宮)

About this spot

This shrine adjoins the north side of Tsutsujigaoka Park (榴岡公園) and enshrines Sugawara no Michizane (菅原道真), known as the deity of learning. Although it sits in central Sendai, it is surrounded by trees, and stepping into the precincts feels as though the air itself changes and grows quiet. Walking the stone paving, touching the water at the purification basin, ringing the bell and pressing your palms together makes an easy sequence of manners for a small child to remember. Haiku monuments and old stone objects are dotted around the precincts, so adults can stroll slowly and take them in. Since the park is a short walk away, it works well as a place to settle your mind at the start of the day.

仙台市宮城野区の榴岡公園にある、無料の「榴岡公園噴水広場の水遊び場」です。噴水彫刻「杜のうた」のまわりが水遊びエリアになっていて、水しぶきを浴びながら走り回れます。すぐそばに芝生広場と遊具があるので、水に飽きたら遊具、走り疲れたらまた水へと、子どもが自分のペースで一日を組み立てられます。トイレが園内にあり、着替えや休憩の場所に困りません。桜の名所として知られる公園ですが、夏は大きな木が日陰をつくってくれるので、木の下に陣取ると休憩が快適になります。料金は無料なので、夕方に少しだけ涼みに寄る使い方もできます。

Tips

開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の運用です。出かける前に仙台市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。駐車場は有料なので、公共交通機関を使うと費用も渋滞の心配も減らせます。水深は浅くても目を離さず、大人が必ず付き添ってください。おむつが取れていない子は水遊び用おむつを用意してください。遊んだあとは足元をよく流し、着替えてから帰ると体が冷えません。

Tips

The precincts are a quiet place, so it goes smoothly if you agree with children in advance not to run around. Checking the manners of worship together with the guide at the entrance is itself a learning experience. Mosquitoes can appear in summer, so insect repellent makes the visit more comfortable. Reception hours at the amulet counter vary by day, so come early if you would like a charm.
