Tsutsujigaoka Park Fountain Plaza Water Play Area
About this spot
This is the free water play area at Tsutsujigaoka Park Fountain Plaza in Miyagino Ward, Sendai City. The area around the fountain sculpture Mori no Uta (Song of the Woods) is the water play zone, where children can run about while getting splashed. A lawn plaza and play equipment are right beside it, so children can build the day at their own pace: play equipment when they tire of the water, back to the water when they tire of running. There are restrooms inside the park, so changing clothes and taking breaks are no trouble. The park is famous for its cherry blossoms, but in summer its large trees provide shade, so staking out a spot beneath them makes breaks comfortable. Since it is free, you can also just drop in for a short cool-down in the evening.

Tips
The operating period has not been announced, and in past years it has run through the summer holidays. Check the City of Sendai information for the day's status before you go. Parking is paid, so using public transport cuts both cost and worries about traffic. Even though the water is shallow, never take your eyes off children and always have an adult with them. Bring swim diapers for children who are not yet out of nappies. After playing, rinse feet well and change clothes before heading home so nobody gets chilled.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 50 minutes. The afternoon, when the sun softens, is recommended
