About this spot

These are the remains of a castle that once stood on high ground overlooking the town of Takashimizu. No buildings survive, but the terrain that sits a step above its surroundings and the sweep of farmland visible from it make clear why this spot was chosen. Walking here after learning that the Outer Moat Park you will play in during the afternoon was created from this castle moat makes the shape of the park suddenly make sense. This is not a site groomed for tourism, so quiet walking while reading the information boards is the fitting way to spend time here. There are slopes, so wear shoes that are easy to walk in.

宮城県栗原市高清水にある、無料の「高清水城外濠公園壁泉・小川」です。かつての城の外濠を整えた公園で、壁泉から流れ落ちる人工の滝と小川、池を使って水遊びができます。園内は樹木が多く四季の景観を楽しめる造りになっていて、夏は木陰が自然の休憩場所になってくれます。駐車場とトイレが整っているので、着替えや休憩の心配が少なくて済みます。城の濠という歴史のある地形の中で水遊びができるのは、この公園ならではの体験です。料金は無料なので、暑い日の夕方だけ涼みに立ち寄る使い方もできます。

開設期間は未発表で、例年は夏休み期間の運用です。出かける前に栗原市の案内で当日の状況を確認してください。池は水遊びの場所とは深さが違うので、子どもがどこまで入ってよいかを最初に決めておくと安心です。水深の浅い場所でも目を離さず、大人が必ず付き添ってください。石は濡れると滑りやすいため、足を守れるマリンシューズがあると安心です。樹木が多いぶん蚊が出やすいので、虫よけを持参してください。遊んだあとは足元をよく流し、着替えてから帰ると体が冷えません。

Tips

The surroundings are a living neighborhood with houses and schools nearby. Follow the signage and take care not to enter private land or fenced grounds. Some stretches have little shade, so do not forget a hat and drinks. In summer the grass grows tall and insects are plentiful, so repellent and long trousers are reassuring.
