About this spot

This shrine, standing in the heart of Iwanuma City, is counted among Japan's Three Great Inari Shrines. The long approach and large two-story gate have enough presence that even children can sense ‘this is a special place.’ The grounds are spacious, and the trees soften the sunlight, making it well-suited to a summer morning stroll. The sequence of touching water at the purification basin, ringing the bell, and putting your hands together is an experience even small children can easily pick up. Since this day involves spending it with water, starting off with a feeling of gratitude toward water makes for a good beginning.

Tips

The shrine grounds are a quiet place, so it helps to agree with your children beforehand not to run around. The approach has sections of gravel, making it harder to push a stroller in places. Mosquitoes appear in summer, so having insect repellent makes for a more comfortable visit. The reception hours at the amulet office vary by day. There is a parking lot, so you can also visit by car.
