About this spot

This is the main building of the Miyazaki Prefectural Government, built in 1932 and still in active use today. Its weighty, stone-like exterior and the southern scenery created by the phoenix palms lined up out front are beloved as a picture that represents the city of Miyazaki. There is a plaza in front of the building, so you can take photos and see the sight in a short time, which is a real help with children in tow. Kusunoki Namiki Street (楠並木通り) continues nearby, and choosing the shaded side makes walking easy even in midsummer. It is a detour to savor a streetscape unique to Miyazaki on the way from the science museum to lunch.

「大淀川市民緑地せせらぎ水路」は、宮崎市の大淀川市民緑地(鶴島地区)にある、大淀川の伏流水を利用した約400mの水路です。宮崎市が「水遊びができる公園」として公式に案内している場所で、水深は浅く、上流から下流までゆっくり歩きながら遊べるのが特徴です。開設は7月から9月末までの予定で、時間は8:00〜19:00。長い水路なので混み合っても遊ぶ場所を選べ、途中の芝生広場やベンチ9基で大人が腰を下ろして見守れます。市街地にありながら川風が抜け、夕方には涼しさが増していくのも大淀川沿いならではの気持ちよさです。

Tips

宮崎市の公式ページに2026年の開設期間の明示はなく、天満橋下駐車場が7月1日から9月30日までのみ利用できることが目安になっています。訪れる前に宮崎市の公園案内で当日の状況を確認しましょう。川沿いのため、大雨の後は増水や濁りに注意してください。水路の底は滑りやすいことがあるので、水遊び用のサンダルがあると安心です。19時まで開いているので、日が傾いてからの時間帯もねらい目です。

Tips

The building is a working government office, so keep your visit focused on the exterior and avoid disrupting official business. Roads nearby get congested during weekday daytime hours, so walking or public transport is more comfortable. The plaza has little shade, so be sure to bring a hat and drinks.
