A shrine in the centre of Miyakonojo City, long cherished as the guardian shrine of the whole district. The straight approach and the great torii gate leave a strong impression, and although it stands in the middle of town, the air changes quietly the moment you enter the precincts. The distance to the main hall is short and the path is flat, so families with small children or a pushchair can pay their respects without strain. On summer mornings the shade of the trees is cool, making it just the right place for the first step of the day. Seeing local people drop in as part of daily life is a flavour of a neighbourhood outing that a trip alone cannot give you.

「沖水川市民緑地せせらぎ水路」は、都城市の沖水川市民緑地にある緩やかな流れの水路です。水が流れるのは7月から9月の9:00〜17:00で、水深は浅く小さな子でも安心して入れます。緑地は面積60.93haと非常に広く、運動広場12面とグランドゴルフ場3面を備えているため、水路のまわりが混み合いにくいのが大きな利点です。遊具のような仕掛けはありませんが、その分だけ子どもは自分で遊び方を見つけ、上流から下流へ歩いたり水をすくったりして時間を忘れます。多目的トイレ1カ所と簡易トイレ9カ所があるので、長く滞在しても安心です。

Tips

毎週木曜日は清掃のため利用できないと都城市の公式ページに明記されています。日程を決めるときは必ず曜日を確認してください。広い緑地は日陰が少ない場所もあるので、簡易テントかレジャーシートと帽子を用意しましょう。水路の底は滑りやすいことがあるため、すべりにくいサンダルで入るのが安全です。17時に水が止まるので、着替えの時間を見込んで16時半すぎには切り上げ始めると余裕があります。

Tips

There is a car park, but it fills up on days with events, so set out with time to spare. The precincts are covered in gravel, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Some stretches have limited shade in summer, so do not forget a hat and drinks.
