A community-rooted art museum in a corner of Shiroyama Park (城山公園) in Miyakonojo City. Through works by artists connected with the region and through special exhibitions, even children can meet something that strikes them as somehow interesting. The galleries are quiet and air-conditioned, making this an ideal place to spend a midsummer morning indoors. It is not too large, so you can finish looking round before a small child's concentration runs out, which is another help. The surrounding park is full of greenery, so you can walk a little after leaving the building to change the mood.

「沖水川市民緑地せせらぎ水路」は、都城市の沖水川市民緑地にある緩やかな流れの水路です。水が流れるのは7月から9月の9:00〜17:00で、水深は浅く小さな子でも安心して入れます。緑地は面積60.93haと非常に広く、運動広場12面とグランドゴルフ場3面を備えているため、水路のまわりが混み合いにくいのが大きな利点です。遊具のような仕掛けはありませんが、その分だけ子どもは自分で遊び方を見つけ、上流から下流へ歩いたり水をすくったりして時間を忘れます。多目的トイレ1カ所と簡易トイレ9カ所があるので、長く滞在しても安心です。

Tips

毎週木曜日は清掃のため利用できないと都城市の公式ページに明記されています。日程を決めるときは必ず曜日を確認してください。広い緑地は日陰が少ない場所もあるので、簡易テントかレジャーシートと帽子を用意しましょう。水路の底は滑りやすいことがあるため、すべりにくいサンダルで入るのが安全です。17時に水が止まるので、着替えの時間を見込んで16時半すぎには切り上げ始めると余裕があります。

Agreeing with children beforehand to stay quiet in the galleries makes things go smoothly. The layout can be managed with a pushchair, but a baby carrier may be easier to move with during a crowded special exhibition.
