Spreading out right beside Takanabe Daishi (高鍋大師) is a cluster of burial mounds designated a national historic site. Mounds large and small are scattered over the hill, and their gentle grass-covered forms blend into the landscape so well that you might mistake them for natural undulations if no one told you. Reading the information boards as you walk shows that Takanabe has been a place where people lived from very early on. The walking distance is short, so it is not a burden on children even on a hot day. The contrast with the rows of stone statues at Takanabe Daishi is interesting, and the two are worth visiting together.
