About this spot

This park at the center of Takanabe Town was developed on the former site of Takanabe Castle. Stone walls and moat remains still stand, and with large trees growing thickly throughout, there's plenty of shade to keep things comfortable even in midsummer. The park has stairs and slopes, and climbing to the top opens up a view looking down over the town. With benches and open spaces, it's a good setting to spread out a sheet and eat a boxed lunch. Rest well in the cool shade to prepare for the afternoon's water play. Eating lunch on the grounds of a former castle makes for a special experience for children all on its own.

Tips

There are stone steps and slopes, so in some sections a baby carrier is easier to manage than a stroller. Taking your trash home with you is standard practice, so bring a bag. Going straight into the water right after eating can upset your stomach, so rest for about 30 minutes before moving on. Mosquitoes appear in summer, so insect repellent will make things more comfortable.
