The Shin-Takaoka Station South Exit Park Waterside Area is a free water-play spot in Shin-Takaoka Station South Exit Park in Takaoka City. Takaoka City officially states that a brook runs through the park, expressing the way the Shogawa River flows from the upper reaches of Hida to the Sea of Japan, and that the downstream waterside area uses river stones from the Shogawa to create a space where children can come into contact with water. Because you can walk while tracing the flow from upstream to downstream, it is a construction found nowhere else, one that teaches through the body how a river makes its way to the sea. It is a neighbourhood park of about 0.6 hectares with no play equipment, but that is exactly why you can concentrate on water and stone alone. The opening period has not been announced; in most years water is fed into the brook during the summer. Being right in front of a Shinkansen station is a major advantage, making it easy to get around whether you come by train or by car.

Tips

The timing of the water supply has not been announced, so check with Takaoka City before visiting, or confirm the day's status on the park notice board. The river stones from the Shogawa are slippery when wet and can hurt bare feet, so prepare footwear that protects the feet, such as water shoes. As the park has no play equipment, combining it with the nearby mall makes it easier to adjust how you spend the time after water play. Changing places are limited, so a towel poncho is handy. There is not much shade, so make a point of drinking often and taking breaks.

About 2 hours. The afternoon, when the sun softens, is recommended, and on the way home you can board a train straight from Shin-Takaoka Station
