The picnic area of Oshima Kitano Riverside Park is an open rest spot within the 3.0-hectare grounds laid out on the riverbed of the Shogawa River (庄川). A reservation is required for barbecues, but simply spreading out a packed lunch needs no booking. The view is open right by the embankment, so the wind passes through well, and as long as you can secure some shade it is a pleasant place even in summer. It is right beside the splash pool, so after a short rest following the meal you can move straight on to water play. Deciding where to leave your belongings in advance means you can keep a calm eye on the children while they are in the water.

Tips

Advance booking is required if you want to enjoy a barbecue, so check the application method in the Imizu City information. Shade is limited on the riverbed, so something to block the sun makes the stay far more comfortable. Rubbish must be taken home as a rule, so bring plenty of bags. Resting about 30 minutes after eating before moving on to water play helps avoid feeling unwell.
