Oshima Kitano Riverside Park Splash Pool

About this spot

The Oshima Kitano Riverside Park Splash Pool is a free water play spot in Oshima Kitano Riverside Park (大島北野河川公園), laid out on the riverbed of the Shogawa River (庄川) in Imizu City. The official Imizu City information notes that the cheers of children fill the air as they play in the splash pool, and it is a summer favourite among local families. The operating period has not been announced, and the city only states that the splash pool is open in summer only, so checking before you go is the sure approach. The grounds are a spacious 3.0 hectares, with the play equipment of the Wanpaku Hiroba playground and a picnic area for barbecues (reservation required), so there is always somewhere else to go when the water loses its appeal. True to a riverbed setting, the sky is wide open and the river breeze feels wonderful. Admission is free, so dropping in for just a short while works well too.

Tips

The operating period has not been announced, so check with Imizu City before your visit or look at the notices in the park for the situation on the day. The bottom of the pool is slippery, so prepare footwear that protects the feet, such as water shoes. There is little shade on the riverbed, so bringing something to block the sun makes breaks much easier. Sudden rain can raise the river level, so finish early on days when the weather looks likely to turn. Get out of the water once every 30 minutes to drink and take a rest between play sessions.

Best time to visit

About 2 hours 30 minutes. The afternoon, when the sun softens, is recommended, and the river breeze feels cool towards evening
